Clams are harvested from the intertidal beach, which extends from – ft below mean lower lo w water (MLLW) to + ft above MLL W (– m to + m).

Intertidal clams (Bodega Bay in and and Morro Bay in ) were collected using 1-m-long by cm-diameter PVC pipes to mark burrows, and shovels to dig up clams.

Geoduck samples from two additional locations (n = 6 sites in total), Dungeness West in Washington State and San Quintin, Mexico, were obtained from colleagues. Subsequently, two to seven clams were lethally sampled on days 1, 2, 4, 8 and 15 for Puget Sound species; and on days 2, 4 and 9 for outer coast razor clam.

Results obtained suggest that OA suppresses the feeding activity and aerobic metabolism, but elevates proteins catabolism of blood clams. Parallel Analyses of Alexandrium catenella Cell Concentrations and Shellfish Toxicity in the Puget Sound Sonya T.

Nantucket Sound has several shoals, and complex currents develop because of strong, reversing, semidiurnal tidal flows. There is little vertical temperature stratification as Nantucket Sound is relatively shallow and well-mixed, although there is some intrusion of warmer continental shelf water from the east during summer (MMS ).

Larvae retrieved from the gills of gravid clams showed much greater mortality rates in waters from SaV (up to 75% after hr), than in those from PP and in the control (approximately 10% after hr).

The first internal growth-related mark in clams from SaV was closer to the umbo (mean: mm), than that in clams from PP (mean: 24 mm). Puget Sound has some of the world's finest habitat for the cultivation of clams, mussels and oysters.

Commercially, these products yield an annual farm-gate value of nearly $50 million.
